Libby Volckening

web-libbyLibby is a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance and a graduate of the 200- and 500-hour Embodyoga™ Teacher Trainings at Yoga Center Amherst. Embodyoga™ is an innovative and exciting approach to the practice of yoga informed by cutting-edge study in the field of body-awareness.  Through the process of “embodied inquiry” -- questioning, sensing, and witnessing every aspect of consciousness as it expresses through the body-mind -- intimate self-knowledge and self-transformation arise.

In addition to her ongoing studies with Embodyoga™’s Patty Townsend, Libby draws inspiration for her yoga teaching and practice from many sources, including Donna Farhi, Shiva Rea, and Gary Kraftsow.  Her personal practice includes The Work of Byron Katie, a simple yet powerful process of inquiry that focuses on questioning stressful thoughts and which has resulted in a radical and ongoing transformation for Libby.  In October 2007, she attended The School for the Work, a 10-day immersion in this liberating process.

Libby teaches Vinyasa Yoga: a dynamic, breath-centered style of Hatha yoga in which flowing sequences of postures are woven into a balanced, whole body workout. Each month she focuses her classes around a particular theme, so students have time to deeply explore and evolve in their yoga practice.

Libby has been leading group movement classes since 1988 and also holds certifications from the American Council on Exercise and YogaFit®.  In addition to teaching at the Shelburne Falls Yoga Studio, she co-directs Green River Yoga & Movement Arts in Greenfield , MA , with long-time Pioneer Valley yogini Jeanie Erlbaum.
